Student Information

WBL opportunities are Student Led, meaning students must take the leadership role in applications, etc. Students should discuss opportunities with their parents and consult with their focus-area teachers, school counselor, and WBL Coordinator before applying for or considering WBL opportunities. You may always make an appointment with staff to discuss any of the following:   

  • Career Assessment,  

  • Resume and Cover Letter Assistance,  

  • Job Search & Placement,  

  • Other Concerns.  

WBL opportunities may encompass classroom, on-campus, and/or optional student-led activities such as:

  • Guest speakers: Your teacher will invite and pre-arrange a guest speaker based on current term instructional needs & pacing. Have a suggestion or a connection for a guest speaker?  Let your teacher know!
  • On-site Class Visits to Worksites/Field Trips: Class visits to worksites and/or field trips are pre-arranged by your content area teacher and based on current term instructional needs and pacing. 
  • Employer Meet & Greets: Make the most of your time at MHS! Interact with industry partners (local business, military, or college) hosting a Meet & Greet in the Commons Area or College & Career Center! Use this time to vibe-check a potential future employer (or college) before applying. Check Schoolinks often for upcoming college and industry Meet & Greet visits (Schoolinks→School→Events).
  • WBL Credit-Bearing Course (12-15 week time commitment): Students spend a term (and possibly beyond) working for an employer while they earn high school credit.  See your counselor about registering for this credit bearing course and visit the MHS Counseling Canvas page for pre-requisites.  This is a course with assignments and grades, but students are allowed to leave campus most days. 
  • Job Shadows (3-6 hour time commitment): Job Shadow Visits are student-led and allow an individual student to spend several hours or a full day with an employer.  These optional, enrichment activities are student-led, meaning the student must take the leadership role in arranging the visit— just the same as you'd arrange your own college visit. MHS offers sophomores, juniors and seniors two excused job shadow visit days.  Learn more on the MHS Counseling Canvas page.
  • Career Fairs: This is a hosted event where multiple employers meet potential future employees and students.  Go by and talk to the participating organizations about the types of employees they hire, what qualities/education/skills they're looking for, and make a connection.  You never know when that relationship might come in handy!  Visit Schoolinks to see when the next Career Fair is (Schoolinks→School→Events)!
